I Was Born Free

"We're all one thing, Lieutenant. That's what I've come to realize. Like cells in a body. 'Cept we can't see the body. The way fish can't see the ocean. And so we envy each other. Hurt each other. Hate each other. How silly is that? A heart cell hating a lung cell." - Cassie from THE THREE

Occupying from within the system: Today, OWS created a super PAC called the “The Occupy Wall Street Political Action Committee.” John Paul Thornton is the treasurer of the committee. “It’s going to be fairly democratic. We’ll take opinions on how much candidates need and in what areas,” Thornton said. The point of this super PAC is to raise money … to stop politicians from raising too much money. “I am out to get the bloated amounts of money out of politics but to do that, we need to support candidates looking to do that,” Thornton said. source

I am Rachel Crow right now.

I was going through the people I follow on twitter to see who I could cut (smell ya later, Alec Baldwin!), and I came across the most recent tweet from the NYC chapter of US Uncut, which was from September 16, announcing that Occupy Wall Street would be starting the next day. I felt a lot of things.
(Then I unfollowed them)

Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas.

I appreciate what they’re trying to do, but it really shows you that artists today lack any kind of self-awareness – culturally they’re very vain. If you’re an artist, you should be revolutionary – we just don’t have revolutionary artists anymore.

Nothing about the park feels like Liberty Plaza anymore. Every inch of the perimeter, for instance, is lined with metal barricades, just inside which stand private security guards, husky and rude, dressed in all black, apart from their yellow vests. A massive Christmas tree has been set up in the park and barricaded off. Besides the few protesters, that’s who’s here. The guards and their barricades.

There’s no kitchen, no library, no medical tent, no media center. There is no drum circle, no sign-painting station, no welcome table on Broadway, no altar around the meditation tree in the northwest corner. There are only about a hundred people, deliberating democratic minutiae, trying to get through a too-big agenda, packed with yesterday’s unattended business.

Word.

Well here’s a little anecdotal assholery for everyone!
Following in the footsteps of pretty much every major Occupy encampment in the country, Occupy Philadelphia is facing eviction tomorrow at 5 pm. Philadelphia police officer Mark Sidebotham found it prudent to post this photo to the Occupy Philadelphia Facebook page, with the note “‎5 o clock [sic] is coming.”
When faced with some questions as to whether a police officer should be antagonizingand perhaps even threatening the protesters in such a public and lowbrow manner, Sidebotham retorted “there [sic] just hating on my freedom of speech.” As people pointed out that freedom of speech does not make one immune from criticism of one’s speech, nor does it protect one from repercussions from one’s speech at the workplace, Sidebotham responded to one poster, “you used to many big words for me to uinderstand [sic] chief.”
This came to my attention because an old buddy from high school, who is currently quite the radical, left a particularly scathing response, which I will end this post by quoting in full:

Pathologically speaking, the sort of people who take time out of their day to repeatedly try to antagonize others through the internet, especially those like Mike who tend to devolve into homoerotic suggestions, are generally similar to the sorts of people who jerk off on chatroullette and then go out gay bashing. It didn’t make him feel enough like a man to join the military so he joined the police. That still didn’t help him forget his little dick so now he strokes it by trying to be a bully. Bullies are by nature cowards, and bullies like Mike are by nature deeply repressed about their own desire to be someone’s bottom. Don’t worry, Mike. I’m sure we’ll find you someone nice to break you in.
