Another point to be made on the death of Kim Jong-Il and how social media handles this: Look at BuzzFeed! They already have four items on his death ready to go, and it happened like an hour ago. We’ve learned how to build social media into this thing where speed is a virtue and reaction time is a key element. It’s almost like his death itself is less interesting than the way that we react to it, which is a huge change from a couple of years ago.
