also i generally find ellen to be obsequious and false but this isn’t a popular opinion so i don’t voice it often.
I’m mixed on Ellen I guess. I was a really big fan of her sitcom, even when it was called “These Friends of Mine”, and “The Puppy Episode” was a pretty big deal for me and probably helped to expedite my own coming out process and all that, and when she hosted the Emmys right after 9/11 she was really pretty remarkable. Her talk show is vapid but has its moments? But then she’s so eager to do endorsements and shit, which in my opinion is just a sign of avarice. There was a really weird moment when she was responding the Million Moms or whoever who were preparing to boycott JC Penney because they’d hired Ellen, and throughout she kept making jokes about actually shopping there, as if Ellen actually shopping at JC Penney, a company paying her millions that she has no need for, would be completely absurd. It grossed me out. And I thought it was really bizarre that she took that job on American Idol when she clearly had no business judging a singing competition and like, already had a job. She even said on her show something like “I’m doing what a lot of you out there are doing: I’m taking a second job.” Except her second job was like 6 hours of work per week max and paid millions (once again, that she didn’t need).
So Ellen’s funny but seems to lack respect for her fan base, basically. Or something.
