it was a joke. on account of the dog in the photo you see. i actually think the most exquisite part of the dog saga is the adoption agency’s stubborn (and completely justified) refusal to bow to the plaintive tears of a beloved and powerful woman
2006-2007 was full of these like, cultural morality plays, mostly on daytime tv, and there’s been very little like it since. I really miss stuff like this!
This particular incident was so weird and confusing and Ellen comes out of it looking really bad, IMO. I’m (pleasantly?) surprised that her reputation didn’t take much of a hit from it. She was really bullying that agency and abusing her position in such a weird, vulgar way. I’m still so fascinated by it.
